Sad desk lunch no longer! Where to eat your SF takeout meals

This month my friend Lisa and I decided to try Mealpal–it seemed fitting, since we’re long-time mealpals… we’ve been eating lunch together since middle school!

Let them eat cake! (in the ’90s…)

Takeout meals are a good way to get out of the office and explore some of San Francisco’s “public open spaces.” These are privately owned and maintained spaces that are open to the public. I’ll be sharing the best lunch spots, near delicious food, of course.

For our first Mealpal pick-up, I suggested La Fromagerie–I KNOW, I just posted one of their sandwiches as a Friday Favorite. But, are you tired of cheese? I’m not! I’d never been to the 1st Street location, and honestly, I’ve never been able to bring myself to not order smoked duck (either the Toulouse sandwich or the La Mancha salad), because their duck is that good. This Mealpal option included homemade burrata, and frankly that’s all I needed to know.

Ok, so we got our lunch, just had to find the right spot to enjoy it…

Right next to the 1st Street La Fromagerie there are stairs leading up to The Sun Terrace at 100 First Plaza — “open daily during daylight hours.”

Well, hello.

That’s nice.

SAD DESK LUNCH NO LONGER!

All the mod cons…

You’ve even got compost, recycling, and trash cans.

Ok, I know you want to see the food…

L’Italien sandwich from La Fromagerie

L’Italien sandwich: Prosciutto di Parma, handmade burrata mozzarella, roma tomato, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper, on a ciabatta roll.

Delicious. I would have loved a bit more tomato and basil, but overall, a classic and winning flavor combination. Successful first Mealpal lunch. I’ll post more as I try other spots, but if you use Mealpal in SF, I’d love to hear from you! What are your favorites? Which ones should we avoid?
