Friday Favorites: La Fromagerie
Friday Favorites! These are dishes and spots around the SF Bay Area that I feel are definitely worth checking out, for other locals and for visitors exploring San Francisco. When I travel, I plan my trips around food, so I’ll try include information that might be helpful if you’re a tourist.
La Fromagerie
101 Montgomery St, San Francisco
415-349-6092
Area: FiDi (Financial District)
Hours: Mon to Fri: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm (breakfast until 10:30am, happy hour from 4-7pm)
Recommended menu items: Le Toulouse sandwich or La Mancha salad
Le Toulouse sandwich – Local smoked duck breast, Ossau Iraty (sheep’s milk cheese from France), fig jam, dried figs, wild organic arugula, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper.
I love smoked duck, and this is good stuff. It’s balanced by a sweet fig jam, aged cheese, and bitter arugula. Cost: $11 for the sandwich, + $4 for a side salad of kale, Manchego, pear, and figs.
La Fromagerie started as a cheese shop in the Dogpatch that also sold sandwiches and bread. Their 2nd location, in the Financial District, has a nice selection of wines as well as cheese.
They also carry Torres potato chips from Spain. I highly recommend the black truffle chips if you’re a truffle hound like I am (enough to name our black rescue dog Truffle).
Where to eat: There are 4 small tables outside the shop and a communal table inside. This is a popular lunch spot for people who work in the FiDi, so it will be crowded during the noon hour.
